THE LOST COUNTRY might very well be the most anticipated Southern Gothic novel ever published. The astonishing delivery of the manuscript, ten years after the advance was paid and six years after the author's death, presents a mystery unto itself. The haunting prose of this dark road trip grips the reader with multiple adventures that could only come from the brilliant mind of William Gay. This is truly a gift from beyond.
THIS COPY (shown below) was hand signed on the title page "in memory of William Gay" by Sonny Brewer, William Gay's editor, who wrote the foreword, and also by William Gay's biographer, Michael White, who discovered the missing treasure, and wrote the afterword. It is a new, unread first edition opened only for signing and comes with a certificate authenticating the signature. Published posthumously in July, 2018 by Dzanc Books, an imprint of Publisher's Group West, distributed by IPS.
WILLIAM GAY (pictured below from our Wall of Fame) is considered by literary critics to be worthy of mention alongside William Faulkner, Barry Hannah, Harry Crews, Larry Brown and other Southern Gothic greats. Considering his short career (he wasn't published until his fifties and he died at seventy) his rise should be called meteoric. He exchanged manuscripts with Cormac McCarthy, who actually helped edit his early work. Two of William's books have been made into movies, and another is in production. With the discovery of decades-old never-before-published writings, the cadre of William Gay fans around the world may have more treats in store. Thank you Sonny Brewer and Michael White for signing our books.
