IN THE VALLEY features ten stories that evoke the beauty of Rash's native Appalachia, as well as shining a light on what makes up the region's dark underside: drug abuse, poverty, environmental destruction, and more. Also, the collection features a novella featuring Serena Pemberton, the titular heroine of Rash's perhaps best known novel Serena, that finds her revisiting the land she helped destroy to find a young child that may tear down all that she built.
