A LONG PETAL OF THE SEA is a heartfelt story about two of the hundreds of thousands of refugees forced to flee their home in Spain after facist General Francisco Franco emerged victorious in the Spanish Civil War. A pregnant widow and her deceased husband's Army doctor brother are forced into a marriage of convenience, and then sail aboard the SS Winnipeg (chartered by the legendary poet Pablo Neruda) to their new home in Chile, " the long petal of sea and wine and snow," where they try to begin their new lives.
